A Redondo Beach woman was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for bilking Medicare out of $24 million for unnecessary repairs to medical devices like power wheelchairs.Tamara Yvonne Motley, 55, who also uses the name Tamara Ogembe, was sentenced and ordered to pay more than $13.1 million in restitution on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.Motley was convicted in June of 20 counts of health care fraud, two counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.For more than 10 years and through a pair of medical equipment companies registered to her out-of-state relatives, Motley used her role as "de facto owner" to submit "fraudulent claims for medically unnecessary durable medical equipment – mostly power wheelchairs (PWC) – and PWC repairs, many of which were never performed," the DOJ said. McDonald’s is launching its most aggressive expansion to date.The fast-food giant announced on Wednesday that it plans to open 10,000 new restaurants over the next four years with the goal of having 50,000 restaurants worldwide by the end of 2027. Officer Hospitalized after Two-Vehicle Collision near Southeast Military StreetSAN ANTONIO, TX (December 6, 2023) – A DWI crash on South Presa and Southeast Military Street Street led to the arrest of Trinidad Huerta, Friday night.Officers responded to the scene at approximately 9:00 p.m., after receiving multiple dispatch calls.An eastbound gray Nissan truck reportedly obstructed a police officer’s path by cutting in front while making a northbound turn at the intersection. Consequently, the Nissan collided with the officer who was responding to a burglary call, utilizing lights and sirens. Associated PressCLEARWATER, Fla. — Fifty-two endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles suffering from “cold stun” are rehabbing at four facilities in Florida after a flight on a private jet from the New England Aquarium in Massachusetts.The turtles arrived in Tampa on Tuesday, and 16 were sent to Clearwater Marine Aquarium, officials said in a news release. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A group of protesters marched on the Golden Gate Bridge Wednesday morning to call for a cease-fire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Video from the bridge showed the protesters sticking to the sidewalk, unlike the protest last month on the Bay Bridge, which blocked traffic for several hours.
