‘The Crown’ Season 6 review: The final episodes shift focus to William and Kate

‘The Crown’ Season 6 review: The final episodes shift focus to William and Kate Nina Metz | Chicago TribuneDespite a hefty budget, luxe visuals and a rotating cast of talented actors conspicuously better looking than their real-life counterparts, “The Crown” ends its six-season run on Netflix revealing surprisingly little beneath the royal family’s inscrutable facade. With the monarchy forever battling reputational damage off-screen, “The Crown’s” (mostly) deferential approach has been all the more puzzling.By design, biopics and their TV counterpoints must decide which details to include and which to leave out. Show creator Peter Morgan has made it clear certain things are off-limits. Though Prince Andrew’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein occurred during the timespan covered in the final season, that detail is absent. Meanwhile, an entire episode focuses on the declining health and death of Princess Margaret. Both events are significant in the life of Queen Elizabeth. Choosing one over the other exposes the limits of Morgan’s curiosity and fortitude. If the firs...

Bruins place Charlie McAvoy, Pavel Zacha on IR

Bruins place Charlie McAvoy, Pavel Zacha on IR The Bruins placed defenseman Charlie McAvoy and center Pavel Zacha on injured reserve, knocking them out of action for at least seven days since they left the lineup with their respective upper body injuries.McAvoy was injured in the B’s loss to Buffalo on December 7 and Zacha was injured in the win over Arizona on Dec. 9. McAvoy had begun skating on his own before the team left for their two-game road trip, but Zacha had not started skating yet. In their place, the B’s brought up center Patrick Brown and defenseman Parker Wotherspoon. The B’s, who play on Long Island against the New York Islanders on Friday and then come home to play the Rangers on Saturday, played without both McAvoy and Zacha on Wednesday in New Jersey and they had an extra forward in Jesper Boqvist, so it’s not clear if there were any injuries stemming from the 2-1 loss to the Devils that would precipitate the call-ups.Also, there were no takers for Jakub Zboril, who cleared waivers on Thu...

No more dry chicken breasts, thanks to this marinade

No more dry chicken breasts, thanks to this marinade Beth Dooley | (TNS) Star TribuneChicken breasts are notoriously tricky to cook. Because they’re lean, they tend to dry out quickly and their thickness varies significantly from end to end. Often, by the time the wide side has cooked through, the tapered end becomes stringy and tough. There are a couple of tricks to employ to keep the meat tender, moist and juicy. The first, of course, is to use the best chicken. Choose pasture-raised chickens, birds that have lived outside in the sun. They are healthy birds, raised without hormones or antibiotics, and their meat is flavorful, firm and more “chickeny.”To deal with the meat’s shape, try placing it on a hard surface and pounding it a little with the back of a skillet. Marinating the meat in yogurt can work wonders, too. Greek yogurt is your best choice because it contains calcium and lactic acid, and the two work together to break down the meat’s protein so it becomes super-tender and moist. It’s simi...

Quick Fix: Provencal Pork with Pepper Potatoes

Quick Fix: Provencal Pork with Pepper Potatoes Linda Gassenheimer | Tribune News Service (TNS)Thinking about the flavors of Provence brings memories of the simple and delicious cooking in the South of France. For this Provencal Pork, I decided to add a simple tapenade to oven roasted pork tenderloin to make a quick meal. Another secret to bring out the French flavors is using Herbes de Provence seasoning. It’s an aromatic mixture usually including thyme, basil, rosemary, tarragon, marjoram and oregano. You can also use it to flavor poultry or lamb.Sauteed potatoes with red and green peppers are a perfect accompaniment to balance out the meal. To speed up the cooking, I first microwave the potatoes and peppers and then finish sauteing them in the same skillet used to make the pork.Helpful Hints:Italian seasoning can be used instead of herbs de Provence.Red wine vinegar can be used instead of balsamic vinegar.COUNTDOWN:Preheat oven to 450 degrees.Microwave potatoes and peppers and set aside, covered.Prepare pork, saute and place i...
